The 50 State crew (Cathy, Chris, and I) have targeted the Coastal Delaware Running Festival on April 22 for our Delaware race and you are all invited to join in the fun!

The race is held in Dewey Beach, Delaware which is just a bit further south than Rehoboth Beach which has had a marathon for a number of years. It is almost equidistant from the Philadelphia & BWI airports which are just over 2 hours away and New York City is 4 hours away.

Races offered include the marathon, half marathon and a 9K. They are coming up with new courses for 2018 but previous comments all praise the race for a scenic, flat course.

You can get more information here:

We haven’t worked out any specific details about lodging yet but can when we have a better idea of who all might be interested in coming and travel schedules.

Come and run with us in The First State!

Sounds fun! If I happen to be in the area for work around that time I could make a side trip.

Yay!  I hadn't even started to figure out which is the best airport to fly into, so thanks for doing my homework for me (again). I like that both are Southwest & Spirit, nonstop destinations for me!

Since I have been sidetracked for the remainder of 2017 and this will probably be my second race of 2018, it will be my 50th race of marathon or beyond.  Not really a thing, but still a thing.

I will tie in a visit to see my family outside of Philly so probably will fly in there but I'm also debating driving.

A lot of the hotels want a 2 night stay and I'm not sure we will be doing that. I was looking at the Hyatt since that is where the race finishes and all of the post-race festivities take place.

Where will you be running before April? You mentioned Hawaii but I'm drawing a blank on what you had after that.

There are a lot of AirBnB places with separate bedrooms and kitchens which could work as well. When we know the headcount and peoples' comfort level with this situation, we can investigate further.  Every time I have done AirBnB, it has been great and less expensive.

Blazerman's employment situation has taken Hawaii off the table for January. With our luck, we would book it, THEN he would get a job and be unable to go!  Since I won't be able to run Chickamauga, I will still need Georgia.  My sister is going to run Snickers Marathon in Albany, GA the first weekend in March to "celebrate" the 20th anniversary of her MS diagnosis.  (I think "commemorate" is a better word.)  That seems like a good reason to fly to Atlanta and then drive three hours for a race!  It is one of the least hilly races in Georgia, so I guess that is good.  I actually just booked an AirBnb for that race.

I'd be fine with an AirBnB. At that time of year we shouldn't have any trouble finding something.

Snickers is the same day as Columbia. I know several people who have run it and they enjoyed it a lot!

a 9K!...I may be able to PR again!

(Except that it is the same weekend as my Internal Medicine conference in NOLA in April.:meh: Although maybe if I find a better one some other time...)

Thanks for the info! I'm going to work it in!Only question is, full or half?
Parent - By nooner [us] Date 2017-10-27 8:29 AM
What kind of question is that? The answer is always full.

Fiance and I decided to run Big Sur (April 29) as part of our honeymoon next spring (running for the Semper Fi Fund), and we are road tripping out there. So I probably won't be on the east coast for this, but if we haven't left yet we will swing by to see you all!
Parent - By nooner [us] Date 2017-10-27 2:20 PM
You will love Big Sur. The race was great and that area makes for a nice honeymoon destination.

Please drop by if you all are still around that weekend.

Heck I'll run Big Sur; I only been on one honeymoon and it was a blast! : pbbt:

Dela why?
Parent - - By indie [us] Date 2017-11-08 7:05 PM
Hmmm, if i can get my miles up ..this will work for a spring race, you are arranging for good weather correct? :p
Parent - By nooner [us] Date 2017-11-10 9:23 AM
That would be cool! One of the disclaimers I would put on this race is that as a coastal race in the spring weather could be almost anything.
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2018-01-14 7:42 AM
Yes, do it indie! I want to, I'm at least in for the half.

OK, so it’s time to get serious about this. I’ve booked my flights and hotel.

Who all is registered and doing this race?

I booked a room at the Avenue Inn and Spa (don’t get too excited it sounds much better than it looks). It is very close to the start finish and was pretty reasonable. Cathy and her friend Amanda have booked an AirBnB further away from the start / finish.

Here’s a link to the hotel:
