Hey- I spent a summer in FLW, MO- great times.... great times....hot and wet boot camp.

JFK Assasinated - not even a twinkle yet
Woodstock - again- not a sparkle...
Man walks on the moon - again- this is an exclusive to old smelly folks.

Elvis died - we were comming back from Sea Island GA- on a summer vacation.
US Embassy in Iran taken over - don't really recall this time.... I was 10.
US Beats Russia in hockey - ?
Space Shuttle exploded - I was in the 8th grade- in English class- Our Teacher- Mr. Weatherly stopped class and turned on a TV so we could watch the coverage.
OJ found innocent - I was on a cosntruction site- working with a couple Georgia rednecks - they were pissed the rest of the week- cussing about this and that and them...

Hey- I spent a summer in FLW, MO- great times.... great times....hot and wet boot camp. -
Oh yeah.. AWESOME Times...
I was there from June - Sept (basic & AIT together).. I was a 12C
Basic - It was like standing in front of a BBQ, it was Africa hot and New Orleans humid (swamp ass was normal), later in September, it was better, but toward the end it got freakin freezing in the AM... (colder than a well-digger's ass first thing in the AM)
"what? huh? couldn't hear you over my baseballgasm"- Soxrock9
June, July, August of '93. basic- I was 91B- went to Fort Sam Houston after FLW.
It rained every day

litterally- everyday. The river flooded that year.
When it was not raining, it was heat cat. 5.... well- a goodnumber of days we hit the 5 mark.
I had heat rash the entire summer, on my waist and head from being wet and hot all the time at the waist band and head band from my kevlar.
We had fans in our barracks but that was it, no AC. That was when I developed the dislike in AC-
My favorite time was in the field- laying in a hasty position that I dug out- the rain filled my hole. I sat for 4 hours in a 12" puddle. Then went back to my shelter half with creek running down the middle between my 'battle buddy' and me.
Loved basic training.....

holy crap!.. I don't remember it raining much at all during basic.. Maybe just a quick (and most welcome) shower...
We didn't have ACs either, certainly could have used it...
If it didn't rain in bivouc I'm sure they would have found a way to import some...

OJ found innocent - 9th grade geometry class
Michael Jackson died - home
That's all I remember...
4/20/09
Space Shuttle exploded: I remember two shuttle explosions. There was the Challenger when I was 9 years old. I was in the fifth grade and we were watching it on television. I can recall my teacher being really somber about it. That night I remember sitting in my bed wrapped in a blanket and looking up at the stars and feeling really sad for the people that died.
I also remember watching Columbia when it disintegrated on re-entry. I mean, you couldn't see it when it happened, but I was watching CNN and it was reported. I remember feeling sick thinking it was somehow related to terrorism but quickly realizing that wasn't much of a possibility.
OJ found innocent: I was a freshman at OU and was sitting outside one of the dining halls waiting to meet my friends to eat. There was an audible uproar from the dorms when the verdict was announced and then this strange mixture of students walking around--some seemed to be happy and celebrating and others seemed upset.
Michael Jackson died: I was at work. I think I only knew about it because I was looking at Google news trying to find information about Farrah. I don't think of this as an event that will stick with me like the others you mentioned.
A couple that aren't on your list that are definitely imprinted on my mind:
9/11: I think this will be the number one event of it's type in my lifetime when people ask "What do you remember?" because I can still remember so many tiny details about that day. I don't think I'll ever forget it.
Oklahoma City Bombing: this was another one that sticks with me. When I came home from school I turned on the local news and thought it was some kind of movie at first.

Oklahoma City - I agree, pancakes. It was 1995 - it'll be forever ingrained in my memory mostly because my dad had just died a few months earlier and I was going through lots of stuff...this was the first of the "big things" that I wasn't able to discuss with him.
and yeah...definitely 9/11. It's crazy to think it was almost 8 years ago.
lover, lover lover
9/11 and Columbine are two events that I don't think I could erase form my mind if I tried. I remember the OKC bombing...but while tragic, it doesn't hold the resonance for me that Columbine does. I couldn't leave the TV. For 24 hours, I just sat on my couch, crying and horrified. Who knew how almost commonplace school shootings would come to be in the next decade?

yeah I was thinking the same thing: OK City, Columbine and 9/11, I was glued to the TV and horrified. With 9/11 I walked around in a fog for a couple of weeks

My BIL graduated from Columbine, but it was before that, he's older than me. He went to school with the South Park creators.

Good call - OK City bombing & 9/11 -
OK - at work, came home and the wife was upset, she'd been watching the news all day...
9/11 - also at work.. The traders called and yelled at us because the conference call they had going dropped off (they were in conference with some folks at WTC)... As we were investigating, folks were checking online and saw the truth of what had happened. We worked until about 2300 that night getting the workstations prepped as they closed the market, but the Fed remained opened... We were evacuated from the John Hancock Tower in Boston, so all work had to be done remotely.. we were able to go back to the tower at 0500 the next day.. sad stuff...

Woodstock - Bowie, MD, playing in the mud. Oblivious
Man walks on the moon - Bowie, MD, playing in the mud. Probably got hauled in front of the TV to watch it but I have no recollection of it. I do remember watching a subsequent Apollo launch.
Elvis died - Burtonsville, MD. I was at home. I remember wearing red corduroy shorts and a t-shirt. I sat on the stairs (green shag carpet) and watched the sun set out the front door.
US Embassy in Iran taken over - Burtonsville. Ordinarily we watched news as a family and my clock radio was for listening to music. I lay on my bed and listened to the news on WPGC, 95.5 FM, then a pop station.
US Beats Russia in hockey - Burtonsville. In front of the television watching with about 30 of my brothers' friends. We went NUTS.
Space Shuttle exploded - NYC, in class, in front of an easel on the 14th floor of a building at the corner of 5th Av and 13th St.
OJ found innocent - Falls Church, VA. I stopped paying attention to the OJ drama after the car chase ended. I'm blissfully ignorant of where I was when he got away with murder.
Michael Jackson died - Baggage claim at SMF, waiting on my brother's luggage. My daughter was with us and got a text from her friend K with the news. My daughter poked me in the ribs and asked if MJ was that weird guy and did I know he was dead.

JFK Assasinated: I was just over 2 years old, I was prob. playing in front on the teevee.
Woodstock: Stuck in Hackensack, NJ. I was 8. My mother wanted to go, but she couldn't get a babysitter. Damn, she shoulda just taken us.
Man walks on the moon: In front of my teevee with my Apollo 11 books, graphs, models, etc. I was a space nut.
Elvis died: I got hit by a car and knocked unconcious at the moment Elvis died. Woke up in a hospital the next day.
US Embassy in Iran taken over: I forget.
US Beats Russia in hockey: In front of my teevee cheering.
ADDED: John Lennon murdered: In bed with a headcold, listening to the radio, almost asleep. I heard it reported on WNEW-FM, a NYC station. Got up and watched Nightline.
Space Shuttle exploded: Assuming you mean Challenger, I was working at a school for disabled kids, and it was a snow day after a big storm the night before, thus no kids came in. Someone had a teevee on, and we gathered around to watch. Very, very sad day.
OJ found innocent: In my kitchen in my apt. in Hackensack, NJ, staring at the teevee screaming "NO FUCKING WAY!"
Michael Jackson died: driving to the Sunset Classic 5 Mile race in Bloomfield, NJ, listening to the radio and calling people to let them know and/or trying to confirm it. I admit it, I was not sad in the slightest the pedophile died.

US Embassy in Iran taken over: I read the headline while I was getting ready to deliver the papers. I had a paper route.
US Beats Russia in hockey: saw the game at home

...was a sophomore in high school.
Space Shuttle exploded: doing stock work at a retail job.
OJ found innocent: A courier for a living. I was driving and pulled over to hear the verdict.

SEPTEMBER 11th, 2001: doing food prep while working at a pizza place. My co-workers wanted to listen to Howard Stern's version.
Michael Jackson died: at work, after hours and talking with a relative. I went to a search engine to search for something else while chatting, and there it was.

JFK Assasinated - In high school (I think I was a sophomore). I remember the principal making a special announcement, plus some of the radio coverage being broadcast, and then us being let out early. I also remember my father getting home from work early and being in tears.
Woodstock - There at Woodstock, sort of. That was between my junior and senior year of college. The father of a friend of mine from college owned a helicopter charter service and my friend called to ask if I wanted to crew on one of the helicopters bringing in supplies to the concert. I went with them and we did about 8-10 trips a day. Sometimes we were forced to watch some of the performances (aww gee, how miserable for us <g>) because they didn't want the noise from the helicopters interfering with the performances.
Man walks on the moon - Sitting in the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City watching it on NASA's internal television network. I was an undergraduate at Columbia and that spring and summer I was doing FORTRAN programming for one of the professors in Columbia's electrical engineering department. The professor's expertise was communications in plasma environments and we had built a computer model of what happens to radio waves in plasmas. The evening of July 17, I got a call from the professor saying that NASA was sending a car for me and that I'd better pack a toothbrush and a change of clothes. The car took me to the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies where they had already moved my program (8 boxes of 2000 punch cards each) from my office at Columbia. They freed up the fastest computer that they had in the place (reportedly one of the 10 fastest computers in the world at that time) and told me to run my program with certain parameters describing a very weak plasma field. At some point, I asked what the big rush was and one of the NASA guys turned to me and said something like "well kid, what's happening at NASA at the moment that's kind of a big deal???". When the program finished running (it took about 36 hours on that computer, normally more like 45-50 hours on Columbia's fastest computer), the results were called in to the three main facilities that were used to provide communications with Apollo 11, and various antennas were adjusted based on the data. They wouldn't have lost contact with Eagle on the way down to the moon, but contact would have been seriously degraded had they not made the adjustments.
Most of you have seen the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies many many many many times. It sits at the northeast corner of 112th Street and Broadway in New York City. The ground floor of the building houses a Columbia University hangout called Tom's Restaurant. The facade of Tom's is what's shown as the diner in the Seinfeld Show. It's actually kind of funny to me that one of the most expensive computers in all the world ever (a couple of $million in 1969 dollars) was sitting two floors above a greasy spoon restaurant that typically had at least one grease fire a week.
I still have the program. The Dell laptop I'm typing this on (with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 at 2.20 GHz) can run it in about 40 minutes.
Elvis died -- Absolutely no idea.
US Embassy in Iran taken over -- I was out at a client in Berwick, PA.
US Beats Russia in hockey -- Sitting in a hotel room in Corning NY.
Space Shuttle exploded -- Assuming you mean Challenger, I was sitting in my office in NYC. I heard about it in the elevator when I went down to pick up lunch.
OJ found innocent -- Watching on the internal NBC News network in 30 Rockefeller Center. I was working on a consulting assignment for NBC at the time, and everyone -- and I mean everyone -- had their office televisions turned to the internal news network.
Michael Jackson died -- Absolutely no idea.

Lying on the floor. Surrounded, surrounded.
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you, where were you?
Just a little late. You found me, you found me.
I couldn't finish my fish tacos because I was full of pickle.

Can you believe I didn't even google that?

I couldn't finish my fish tacos because I was full of pickle.
