No one is talking about this yet? I just finished the second episode. I....don't know what to say yet. :laugh:

YAY IT IS BACK :grin::grin::grin:

I am three episodes in and don't know what to say either.  They have moved the cherry pie/dancing dwarf ratio from roughly 80/20 in the original to 1/99 in the new version.  It is certainly something!

I've only watched the first episode, which was a double I guess being 1hr50 long but I found it a bit lacking in lightness and humor.
In the old seasons, you had the crazy, gloomy and absurd too, but also a lot of lightness and funny quirkiness.

First week was all gloomy really, and some old characters didn't age well. Like I don't understand why they gave Lucy exactly the same hairdo, clothes and character. You'd expect her to have evolved a bit in 25 years.

Anyway, I'll be able to form a better opinion after this week's episode which I haven't seen yet :wink::cool:

Andy looks terrible. :laugh:

I missed the lightness, humor and quirkiness. I tuned out after the first hour. I was too :wtf:

it's back in the 4th episode :cool:

While I RELIGIOUSLY enjoyed the original and was SO excited about the return, my joy turned to sadness and anger when I learned that the return was to Showtime and not network, cable or HBO. :cry::mutmad:

So no, I won't be talking about it.:sad:
Parent - - By triplejake (The Vampire Lestat) [us] Date 2017-05-30 5:52 PM
Showtime and HBO are sort of cosmically equivalent.  :wtf:

Yes, but not in my subscription.

I want to watch it and like it but David Lynch is too weird! I don't ever get it! :cry:
Parent - - By callie [ca] Date 2017-05-30 8:22 PM
I'm struggling so far. :laugh: I will champ it out though. At least as long as my free CraveTV subscription holds up : pbbt:

You do get it, you just don't know it

When asked the question "what did you mean by this?" David Lynch always answers he usually doesn't know himself. He just has ideas and puts them into film without really grasping the deeper meaning himself.
So the "meaning" can be different for every different person watching the movie.

Ok so... the tiny old couple running around at the end of Mulholland Drive...? It meant nothing to me and nothing to DL?
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2017-05-31 7:49 AM Edited 2017-05-31 7:52 AM
It meant whatever you thought it meant :laugh:

Yes, that got me pretty confused as well. Suddenly the characters switch places too :wtf:
On the cyber people seem to have different explanations for what the old couple represents ( one says her dreams, someone else says her innocence, ...).

Also, Lynch doesn't say it doesn't mean anything, he just says it's an idea but the abstraction of that idea may be different for different people. Like above. Some see this in it, some see something else in it.
Parent - By Photocat [us] Date 2017-06-06 1:03 PM
Mulholland Drive was so annoying because i just obviously missed whatever IT was.:roll::roll:
Parent - - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2017-05-31 8:21 AM
"It means whatever you think it means" seems like a lame cop out.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2017-05-31 9:33 AM
Talking about lame cop outs, one word 'Paris' :roll:

If you can stick it out to episode 4, things start to get a little bit less weird :cool::hug:
Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2017-06-03 2:27 PM
what Jake says, again :cool:

I just watched the 4th and it gets a bit less freaky in the sense that now you have the regular storylines running along.
Also, some cool characters start to appear, new and from the past, and the quirky funny exchanges are back :hug:

Ok well now we are House of Cardsing so maybe after? Dh is intrigued but he doesn't like scary things so I have to convince him that it's creepy not scary.
Parent - By callie [ca] Date 2017-06-08 2:15 PM
Ooh I'm house of cardsing too!!
Parent - By Photocat [us] Date 2017-06-15 8:42 AM
Definitely not scary.

Episode 8, WTF :wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:

I have a small idea but what the hell was that all about.
Lynch goes all out in this one, was crazier than the first three episodes combined.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2017-06-26 5:28 PM
just checked reddit. Those people are nuts. The number of references they find is crazy, they put two and two together alright  :shocker!::cool:
Parent - - By triplejake (The Vampire Lestat) [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:43 PM
Just got to 8.  Good lord.  This one makes the dancing dwarf stuff from the original series seem like Happy Days.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2017-07-09 3:12 PM
:laugh::cry:

He's showing all those artsy fartsy Independent Indie film makers how it's done :shocker!:
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2017-07-10 7:21 AM
Is there a storyline yet?
Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2017-07-11 2:20 AM
I just saw episode 9 which was surprisingly normal and I think there is :grin:
Also, it seems like all the back stories are somewhat merging. They're still far apart though, but it's starting to blend.
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2017-07-11 6:30 AM
I finally just stopped in the middle of ep. 6. No damned point.:roll:
Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2017-07-11 12:56 PM
I'm sorry to hear :sad:
Did you watch the first two seasons though?
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2017-07-11 12:58 PM
Yes. Loved it. I figure if it turns out that there is a story and a point and it is semi-good after everyone sees it, I'll go and watch it all.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2017-07-11 2:17 PM
good call, I'll keep you posted.
They already have been going much deeper into how the black lodge and such has come to be, so IMO that's the theme of this season.
Parent - - By triplejake (The Vampire Lestat) [us] Date 2017-07-11 10:43 AM
9 was relatively tame.  I'm a little confused as to how Evil Coop is still running around and being evil, but I guess I can roll with it (a fairly important mindset when watching this show).
Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2017-07-11 12:50 PM Edited 2017-07-11 12:54 PM
I think you definitely have to watch it with the mindset of "I don't know what the hell this all meant, but I'll just catalogue this under 'may come in handy later'".

<SPOILER>

Also, regarding Evil Coop and Dougie, more background was given about Dougie, as he apparently sprung into existence in '89 (or '90?), and he has been a bit 'out there' since his 'car crash' back then. This sounds a lot like the car crash Evil Coop just had as well.

I still don't quite get what the Colonel had to do with all this, but can't really recall what his role was in the first 2 seasons, except for being completely out of touch with his son.
It has all to do with the nuclear explosion (and the full wall picture of one behind David Lynch's character desk) somehow I guess, but things should get a bit clearer in the future.

</SPOILER>

Major Briggs was involved in all kinds of X-Files stuff, some of which included Black Lodge research.  He made a strange disappearance toward the end of season 2 that could have been a journey to one of the places that we are seeing now in the new series -- seems like he went there, came back briefly for a final visit home, then returned for good.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2017-07-12 3:46 PM
Ok. yes it seemed he never really could talk about his work I think. But I think they somehow all are investigating around the nuclear explosion happening and what ensued.
