In honor of Ed's local news fame earlier this week, tell us about your brushes with fame. Have you ever been on TV? Which famous/infamous people have you met? Are you famous in your own mind? : pbbt:

Weekend plans

Bonus: has anyone else been following the Oiselle/sponsored runner who turned out to be a cheater kerfluffle this week? Thoughts? For reference: link

I was on TV in high school. It was Univision actually, and I was interviewed in Spanish! <strange story ahead> When I was a senior in high school, my parish priest got the stigmata, and everywhere he went, statues of Mary would cry. It started with the statues in our church, and one time at another church a stained glass window with an image of Mary started crying. A lot of other things happened around him as well, and people from all over the world flocked to our town and church to see my priest. News vans were camped out there as well. I was active in our youth group, and one day after a youth group meeting a reporter from Univison approached and asked if any of us spoke Spanish. I was in my 5th year of learning Spanish in school, so I told them I spoke it, and they interviewed me in Spanish for the Univision news! I never saw the broadcast but I still thought it was pretty cool. <end strange story> The other time I was on TV was during the local pre-race coverage of NYCM 2002, there was a shot of me, Victor, and Kil hanging out on Staten Island before the race! The famous people I have met include John Cena in an airport, DMX on an airplane, and Joan Benoit Samuelson a few weeks ago at Sugarloaf. Of course I'm famous in my own mind. : pbbt:

Workout/run: will just be some stretching tonight. I did 3 miles last night followed by stretching, the hip felt good during the run but was a but sore afterward. Today it's none the worse for the wear.
Food/drink: pasta with mushrooms and green tea
Blather: after having several episodes of deja vu yesterday, I had some super vivid dreams last night that I still remember. Weird!
Weekend plans: 5k tomorrow, lots of errands, something fun on Sunday for Father's Day with fiance and his kids

Bonus: The Run Selfie Repeat chick has always annoyed me. She annoys me more now. I have never bought anything from Oiselle since it's stupid expensive, and now that I know they fully support someone who has been caught cheating multiple times and seems to condone it, I will never purchase from them ever. I am not quite sure how Oiselle and the RSR chick still have supporters. :wtf:

Ed's local news fame   Funny, it was shown on the 11pm news Tuesday night and at the gym Wednesday morning for 6am cycling class no one mentioned anything about seeing it:roll:  Maybe they were asleep?  Then I was back last night for 6pm cycling class and no less than 8 people approached me to tell me they saw me on the news, including one person I'd never met before!  I guess the night owls go the gym in the evening & the early to bed folks come in at 6am.  This was my one & only televised interview ever.  I was interviewed one year on the morning of the Philly Marathon by a local radio reporter who was roaming around early on race morning and approached me at random.  I never heard it broadcast but several friends & coworkers told me they did.

In 1972 I "met" Jane Fonda..."met" probably extends the meaning of the word as there wasn't actually an introduction, I was one of 3 students assigned to escort her from the college auditorium to her waiting limo after she made a speech at our school.  Since I used to attend the annual national meeting for USA Track & Field I've very briefly met several T & F Olympians...Ashton Eaton, Deena, Jen Shur (pole vault) and Dan O'Brien (1996 Decathlon Champ).  While I one time lined up 3 feet away from Bill Rodgers at the start of the Boston Marathon, I didn't actually meet him then but did several years later when his booth at the Philly Marathon Expo was just across from the one I was manning.  I think the coolest encounter I've had with a famous athlete was last spring while swimming laps in the pool at the gym and I shared a lane and conversation with Carli Lloyd as she was doing pool exercises to rehab a sprained MCL.

I subbed/taught the 6am cycling class this morning & did core & shoulder PT exercises afterwards.  I taught the Friday 6am class for >3 years & the woman who took it over is leaving because she's a) moving to California and b) about to have a baby any day now!  Last week my boss auditioned an instructor that she's hiring but couldn't bring on-board fast enough for her to teach this morning.

DW and I are going out to dinner tomorrow which is our 39th anniversary.  DW and I went shopping separately this morning   and ended up at the same mall...and ran into each other twice while there :roll:

On Sunday our DD & S-I-L will be over for dinner to celebrate Father's Day.  DS is currently on a job in D.C., not sure yet if he'll be done there & come home tonight and was previously scheduled to drive to Pittsburgh tomorrow to do an inspection at a steel plant on Sunday so we don't know if the extended nature of the D.C. job will impact him going to Pittsburgh.

Bonus:  I only peripherally heard about that but haven't read any of the details.  How stupid can one be?

The summer between HS and college, I worked at a large, local, discount store and was on one of their commercials saying, "Low, low prices every day!":roll: A few of my customers over the years, have been owned by former professional NFL and NBA players.  Some are "front men" and some are very good businessmen. The mean trainer at my boxing gym trains some current NFL players who live in my city....these include a Cowboy, a Bronco and a Jet.  They are all very nice young men!

My craziest interaction with a famous person was back in 2005 or maybe 2006.....the night before the Detroit marathon, my friend and I stayed at very nice hotel in downtown Detroit. (My customer owned it and comped us a room.) I checked in about 3:00 pm and when I headed back outside in one of those HUGE, hotel revolving doors, a young man accidentally got in the same partition as me.  He immediately apologized saying, "I'm so sorry ma'am, I wasn't paying attention." I told him it was no big deal.  As we exited the revolving door, dozens of young women were out there screaming his name.  All I heard was "Kanye! Kanye!":laugh:  While I knew his name, at the time, he wasn't nearly who is he is now and I certainly didn't recognize him.  No matter how he may be now, back then, he had extraordinary manners!

After doing a double of pool running yesterday because my legs felt crappy, I decided I would do it again today for an hour.

Weekend plans include a long run of 17-18 in the HOTT. Sunday, we will have our traditional Father's Day gathering......the men play golf and then one of the families hosts four families for a cookout in the afternoon.  I think this is the 6th year we are doing it and it has become a sorta dear to everyone.

Bonus:  If I were ever to pay that much for clothes, I certainly would not do so now.  This is a marketing disaster.  They are stick by someone like Kara, you don't stick by some loser like the selfie chick.

Kanye! :laugh::laugh:

Good luck with your HOTT long run!

No major brushes with fame here. I did get to watch a Red Sox game with a couple of Boston Marathon champs (Greg Meyer and Bill Rogers) this past April - that was very cool.

Of course I'm famous in my own mind. I think I have a pretty interesting / bizarre / heart wrenching / hilarious life story. Hopefully I'll carve out the time to write it down and share it with anyone who's interested before I'm old and forget everything.

Workout: 8.5 miles this morning
Food/drink: Granola this morning, pizza for lunch. Milk, Diet Coke, water, iced tea.
Blather: The End is near! Seriously, the end of the school year can't come soon enough. Stuff is winding down - soccer for my son ended last weekend, my daughter had her big Irish dance performance last night, final exams are next week. I'm exhausted and so sick and tired of being responsible for kids' schedules, driving them to endless rehearsals, practices, etc, feeding them, etc.
Weekend: A kid-free weekend at the family reunion! And of course elbowing little kids (my cousins' kids) and maybe a few adults (my cousins) out of my way so that I can win the family reunion 5K:laugh:.

Enjoy your weekend! And win that 5k!

I have had some minor brushes with fame, but we had one recently that was kind of funny. On our flight to Philly there was a former athlete (from a philly team), now a coach who could safely be classified as one of R's childhood heroes on our flight. He played it cool, as you do.
About halfway though the flight the announcement comes on the PA asking for a doctor. My pediatric geneticist husband's buzzed the attendant thing and I didn't see him for the rest of the flight. Turns out, the 60 year old man having chest pain, rapid heart rate and cold sweat was his childhood hero. So R treated him, and monitored him for the rest of the flight. Thinking the entire time, if he dies he will never forgive himself (he didn't die). It was serious enough that the plane went quite a bit faster and we landed 45 minutes early.
Before landing R did tell this gentleman that he was one of his heroes and he grew up loving to see him play. As far as we know he is fine.  N later told someone about this and said ':athlete: is famous, and my dad helped him, so I guess now I'm famous"

run 7 miles. So hot.
salad for lunch
blather I won tix to the dallas symphony tonight, we probably won't go because we already have tickets to something else.

plans tee ball double header tomorrow, dinner out tomorrow night, busy sunday and a 6am flight on monday.

bonus no! I hadn't heard about that and I am bummed because I love oiselle shorts.
