You know the drill.

Bonus: How often do you eat in a day? Do you eat meals and snacks? What about dessert?
Parent - - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2017-06-28 10:22 AM
Yesterday at work was a huge WTF. There was a huge ransomware attack that affected our parent company's network and servers, and we had to disconnect from the network and turn our computers off at around 10 yesterday morning. They didn't have a security patch for our particular office until 12:15 this morning! :shocker!: We had to work without computers all day. It was interesting.  I talked to more people in person yesterday than I have in a really long time! We did brainstorming with pen and paper. It was all very archaic.

Workout: 3 recovery miles this morning. Last night I did 10 x 2:00 at 8:04 with a mile warmup and cooldown. I don't know if my hip exercises are already paying dividends or what, but I felt really strong throughout.
Blather: perk of working at a big ad agency: the company has a box at MetLife stadium, and from time to time we entertain clients there. Tonight fiance and I are entertaining his client there for the U2 concert.:cool::cool:

Bonus: I eat way more often than most people around me. I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I usually have one snack between breakfast and lunch and 1-2 snacks between lunch and dinner. I also have a snack after dinner but before bed. Sometimes it's dessert. Sometimes I have more than one snack before bed.

I am not a huge U2 fan but this is the Joshua Tree tour right? I do love that album. Have fun!
Parent - By Eric1970 Date 2017-06-28 1:18 PM
Have fun at the concert! I have heard only good things!
Parent - By PuddleThumper Date 2017-06-28 4:03 PM
i can just imagine everyone stumbling out from behind their computers and :gasp: talking to each other!

ooh, enjoy the concert!
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-06-28 5:12 PM
Enjoy, we loved the concert!

Crazy about the attack, I met some former colleagues for lunch, apparently they weren't affected for most part.
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:53 PM
It's really cool seeing you get stronger and faster

Enjoy the concert tonight.  You've earned it!

WTF to this vet specialist we are seeing for SirB's ear infection. I could not make the trip yesterday for a follow-up visit but my wife came back really ticked off and apparently one of the options they presented her was to cut off his ear. WTF, the dog is 13 years old.. he does not need any more trauma in his life. We are done with them. What a racket.

Workout: Planet of fitness today at lunch for strength and stretching. 2-3 mile dog walk along the lake this evening. I am finding it very difficult not to run this week. I feel pretty good, the weather is perfect summer weather, and it's making me slightly mental. I will at 2 weeks the end of Saturday. Will hold out til' then at least.

Bonus: Breakfast, lunch, evening beer, dinner, evening snack. Often I will have an afternoon snack, typically just fruit though. Sometimes a yogurt as a mid-morning snack.

Hang in there a few more days for that knee. You don't want to set yourself back to get a run in because the weather is nice. Sit on your deck and and have a second beer and enjoy the weather!
Parent - By PuddleThumper Date 2017-06-28 4:02 PM
:shocker!::cry: what kind of a solution is that?!

it sounds like great weather for sitting on the deck with a nice beer.
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-06-28 5:29 PM
:shocker!: Wow. What a bunch of asshats.
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:51 PM
I hope you can find a different vet for SirB

Hang in there with the walking.  Keep telling yourself those same stupid lies you always hear from spectators when you're racing:  "Looking good!!!"  "You're almost there!!!"

It's not really a WTF but this week I've spent too many hours trying to schedule appointments for Shawn. One is for a dental procedure for Shawn that his dentist says needs to be done under general anesthesia. Since CHOP has his anesthesia down to a T, I asked if we could go there. "Sure," he said "I can write a referral for you." Well, a non CHOP provider referring us to CHOP makes him an outsider and a new patient. Which means they can get him a consultation in September and who knows how much longer for the procedure. His dentist wants it done within two months. So I emailed the office and said that we'll have it done in their surgery center instead, as had been originally discussed. She put in the order. They called me to get his medical history and after THAT twenty or so minutes, including telling me that they need the name and phone number of EVERY specialist that follows him at CHOP and needed me to give them to her because "CHOP is very big so she needs direct numbers, not just the general number, for which I proceeded to google all his departments at CHOP so I could give her the numbers, she told me that she will send this information to their anesthesiologists who will decide if they are comfortable doing this on an outpatient basis. Eventually I gotB a call back to schedule it for early August.

But wait! There's more scheduling woes! Shawn has a spot on his shoulder that is black and brown with irregular borders and appeared recently and has changed in size. I sent a picture of it to his oncologist and she told me to schedule an appointment with dermatology. Well dermatology isn't taking new patients until December so I emailed his oncologist and asked her to put an order in to get him in sooner. She did. I called dermatology back and they said she didn't include the timeframe that she wants him to be seen so the order is incomplete. I emailed her back. She said that she had put the timeframe in for a month but that she'd do it again. I called dermatology back and got the same scheduler. She said that she now sees the order with the timeframe but that it doesn't indicate whether it's urgent or standard. At this point I said, calmly, can your office just get in touch with her office and straighten this out? All we're doing now is going back and forth with me as the middleman. She put me on hold to talk to a coordinator and came back and said that the order is ok as it is and that one of the coordinators will call me to schedule the day/time. Later someone did, and after initially saying to herself that she's not seeing any openings until August, offered me an appointment on 7/28. Ok, I said, if that's what's available (thinking to myself that it's not technically within the month that his doctor ordered since this was yesterday) but that from my mom-perspective, sooner is better since we're watching this thing on his shoulder and he already has one cancer, it's a bit nerve racking to wait to see if this is a new cancer. I've moved out of my angry CHOP mom stage and onto calm and persistent begging, and in this case, playing the "cancer card." Lo and behold, she asked if 7/17 is ok. Deal!

I was reminded of how privileged we are to have these "ins" there, despite the frustrations that still come with it, but at the same time the reason we get an appointment six months sooner than other people is because he's not well. You really don't want to be on the priority list at a hospital like that.

I went to my own primary care doctor this afternoon for a minor issue and it was the first time I'd seen her for a while, since before Shawn got sick, I think. She's been my doctor for 10 years so she asked how things are going. I told her, briefly, about Shawn and asked if she really has to weigh me since I'm in purposeful ignorance of that number (she agreed to skip it since it wasn't relevant to my current issue). She was as shocked and surprised as everyone always is and was all kinds of sympathetic and asking me how I'm doing and if I need anything and asking how Lilly is doing and then asked how Bill is doing. I did the awkward chuckle and said, well, his 25 year old son died in April from a drug overdose. At that point she and I both agreed that I should become a soap opera writer. I've got good material.

I ran my usual this morning. Weather was fantastic.

Bonus: I'm a grazer and I've been grazing a bit too much lately. I'm not a big dessert person, though. I'll eat dessert if someone serves it to me. I don't go out of my way for it.
Parent - By Eric1970 Date 2017-06-28 1:21 PM
I'm happy that they were able to get the appointment moved up.
Parent - By PuddleThumper Date 2017-06-28 4:00 PM
that scheduling is insane.
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-06-28 5:28 PM
Glad they were able to get you in. Scheduling stuff is completely insane. :meh:
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:23 PM
I absolutely love that your PCP didn't bother with a weigh-in that wasn't necessary.

The scheduling   you did a great job making it happen

My WTF is our EMR and the current ACO reporting metrics. I would type out the whole description of metrics and all that stuff, but I will just get irritated, so I won't, but I need to find a way to retire early.

6 mile run this morning. It was great weather. I love when the humidity is low. Sadly that will end this weekend, I think. I hit my goal for the month, so I'll probably not run much the next two days.

Bonus: I don't eat often during the day. I have a banana and yogurt in the morning and then usually do not eat until I get home after the gym and have dinner. I know I should eat better, but the motivation to do meal prep is low. I have been trying not to go into the candy draw at work and have been pretty good for the last 2 months. I lost about 5 pounds since May 1, so some progress. I do like dessert, but usually only have fruit at home. I will eat ice cream at home if I buy it, but since I have been trying to lose the weight I gained by reducing my running, I try to not have it in the house much.
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-06-28 5:21 PM
:shocker!: How does your stomach not growl. Mine will make itself heard if I don't eat. And yes you should eat better. :p
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:40 PM
Good job taking off the five pounds!  If I bring a dessert into the house, I cannot help but eat it.  There is no delayed gratification.

I recently saw an article about the high rate of burn-out by doctors.

Can I still post if I'm WTF-less today? : pbbt:

I taught cycling class this morning & did core & shoulder PT exercises afterwards.

I always eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I always have some type of dessert type snack an hour or so after dinner instead of immediately following dinner...most of the time.  Often in the afternoon I'll have something healthy like a banana. On Wednesdays I pick up a muffin at Wegmans after morning cycling class and eat that  when I get home.  Yesterday I had lunch out at a dinner (tuna melt with fries) & then dinner (burger with fries and one Guinness) at a restaurant after our club's race.  This morning I weighed 4 pounds more than I did yesterday

We had a pretty good turnout of 83 runners for the race last night.  I prepared & posted the results on the club web site this morning.  This afternoon I cut my grass.  I could use a nap but I'll probably sit down in front of the TV with the Phillies game on and if being annoyed at how crappy they play doesn't keep me up I just may get that nap

No WTF on this one?

No WTF because I know what caused it :cry::cry:

You had a very busy day and probably burned off at least half those extra pounds
Parent - By Ed [us] Date 2017-06-29 6:02 AM
  ...3 of the 4 magically disappeared by this morning.

WTF did a simple repair have to be so hard?

We came home to a toilet that was running and I took a quick look and saw that I had to replace the flush valve which I have done countless times over the years. (I was a little pissed that this one lasted just over a year). The main problem was the water shut off valve is a new design and to turn off the water you pull out a plastic plunger rather than turning a knob like I'm used to. That darn plunger almost beat me, but I finally got it pulled out and stopped the water and had the new valve in place in less than 30 minutes.

I did 4 miles yesterday which was the first running I have done since the marathon on 6/17. We did another 5 today and those felt better. We head to the beach next week, so I'm just going to keep things pretty easy until we get home from that.

Bonus: I usually just have 3 meals. I will grab a quick handful of something to snack on in the late afternoon and dessert if there is something around. There was way too much availability of dessert on the cruise ship and I took advantage of the selection.

simple repair - isn't that an oxymoron? :p
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:33 PM
I don't blame you for the frustration with the plumbing repair -- gah !!  But, assuming your time is free , you saved the family something around $100, right?

Enjoy your beach time!

wtf. i have so many with the issues surround f-i-l that they are just too numerous to go into. :meh: the current big wtf is why are they trying to discharge him all of a sudden when they still don't quite understand what is going on with some heart issues, he's not able to really move by himself yet after the hip joint replacement and currently still doesn't quite have the capacity to deal with self care like bathroom, ordering food etc. he's very confused and hasn't understood where he is but because he's quiet and not trouble and will answer "fine" to any question that any doctor or nurse asks, he seems like he is doing better than he really is.  he's supposed to go to a short term skilled nursing facility and because of some other existing issues, they are balking about taking him because of insurance issues.

and then wtf becuase i have 3 friends coming into town starting tomorrow. this is great actually but between all the issues with F-i-L not sure what is going to happen there. dh of course will not be able to participate as much but i should be able to except that all the stuff with f-i-l is so stressful for everyone. thank goodness his parents are now local though!

i ran 8 miles this morning. i'd not been able to go over 5 or 6 miles since the marathon so sucked it up and just did it today. wtf. because we are going to be short a runner (or two!) on the ultra relay coming up in 3 weeks, i'm going to have to bounce to the ultra team probably. i guess i better be able to run more than 5 miles. anyone want to come be on my team?:grin::grin::noseriously: Breakfast with my mom and then pool running class with her. that felt great.

bonus: all the time. breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, random nuts/candy, dinner, dessert or snack.

Sorry about FIL. Hope you can get some time with your friends and relax a bit.
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:30 PM
Thank you for posting an update.  I have been wondering how things have been going

Organizing relay teams is such a headache.  Hope you find another runner or two.

Oh yeah WTFs' I got plenty. :p But too tired to list them. Been working late evenings, two more days and hopefully will wrap it up, a four day weekend and then move to the next phase which should be slightly more sane..maybe..I will have two guys on my team from offshore and one brand new employee who is Russian. And frustrated at how slowly things move. Get in line

Other WTFs are around the news. As usual

Bonus: five or six. Three meals and then snacks. Though it varies according to hunger
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 7:25 PM
Sooooo many WTF's
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2017-06-28 8:05 PM
My only WTF's today were self-induced from too much revelry at last night's trivia.  Why oh why do I tell myself "how bad can it be?" when out having fun and then die the death of a dog the next morning when trying to run. :meh:

It was still a fun time.  We got off to a strong start, then crashed and burned in the last two categories.  One I thought was particularly fun was matching actors with TV shows which feature their voices, but hardly ever their faces.  The easier ones were Charlie's Angels, Home Improvement, Mission Impossible and Big Bang Theory.  Some of the others were obscure, at least for us.

Bonus:  I don't really enjoy meal prep, so I just snack a lot.
