Everyone must be on vacation if it is 1pm pacific and no weekend thread!
Parent - - By reebs (chicken whisperer) Date 2017-07-08 2:04 PM
30 min in puget sound. It was a glorious 59 water and 66 air with full sun. Tide was waaaay out, so we had to walk you to the sand bar to start swimming. A 9month preggo friend was there and her doc cleared her to swim in the cold for her last trimester, so the was thrilled. Big festival on the beach meant TONS of people, so I didn't linger. But it was good to be back in the sound after 3 weeks off for sickness etc.

Your open water swimming is just amazing!
Parent - By easternshoregir [us] Date 2017-07-08 5:47 PM
Sounds like a nice swim!
But brrrr, that is cold to me.:laugh:
Parent - By swandive [us] Date 2017-07-08 6:40 PM
Jealous of your air temp!

Sounds like a nice swim.

"Glorious 59 F. water":laugh::laugh: Okay, you are tougher than I am. I'll just flat-out admit it.
Parent - By reebs (chicken whisperer) Date 2017-07-10 12:26 PM
the longest distance I've ever run was a half marathon. tough is relative!
Parent - - By stickywicket Date 2017-07-09 5:05 PM
Was the pregnant friend not allowed to swim during the rest of the pregnancy? Or was she just cleared to continue?:wtf:

And yeah, 59 does not seem quite so glorious to me, but obviously I'm a wimp.
Parent - - By reebs (chicken whisperer) Date 2017-07-10 12:25 PM
she was just cleared. earlier th ob said not to freeze the fetus. I think she changed OBs. this one just said don't get hypothermic!

:shocker!::laugh::laugh:
Parent - By ironjen Date 2017-07-11 4:45 AM
Seriously "don't freeze the fetus"? :shocker!::laugh::laugh: That's like when the one Dr in the practice I go to, told me no running even though I'd been a runner for years and he had NO REASON just don't do it

  Happy for you!  You are badass!  I just read your blog on the last race.  Yes, the fewer the racers, the more likely the DFL, but you can consider them all DNS!  We have a lot of racers drop out during bike races, so someone gets <last> place, followed by the DNFs and then the DNS people.  The harder the race, the more likely to be DNS or Did not even signup people.  I think it adds to the badass status to tough out things and persevere in a race where few braved the elements or had the tenacity to finish.

7 miles in the park, with my knee brace on. I have an appointment with the orthopedist on Tuesday just to make sure everything is O.K. and that the stiffness I've been dealing with isn't something more serious (related to my broken patella of last October).

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Parent - By easternshoregir [us] Date 2017-07-08 5:46 PM
Hope you get good news on Tues!
Parent - By swandive [us] Date 2017-07-08 6:41 PM
I hope the doctor says your knee is ok (or, better yet, has an easy way to fix the stiffness).
Parent - By judyruns Date 2017-07-09 8:42 AM
Best of luck at the doc!
Parent - By Zipper [us] Date 2017-07-09 9:55 AM
Fingers crossed! I hope it's just maybe a little fluid or swelling under the healed break.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-07-09 5:34 PM
Hope your knee is ok.
Parent - - By easternshoregir [us] Date 2017-07-08 5:46 PM
I am in my quiet, peaceful house all by myself! This is kind of amazing. The only thing better were if it were more clean, but I won't be too picky.
DH took E down to his parents' for the night but I have online grading tomorrow morning so I couldn't go.
Parent - - By swandive [us] Date 2017-07-08 6:42 PM
Turn down the lights and you won't notice the mess. : pbbt:  Enjoy your peaceful night at home!

I ran 13.3 this morning.  It sucked.  I headed out just as it was beginning to get light, but I still got really hot by the end.

Metallica tomorrow.  It's at the new baseball stadium, which means outdoors, and the field is general admission so I'll likely get there quite early and end up being outside (likely with not a lot of shade) all day tomorrow.  I'll be worth it, though!
Parent - By Nomad Date 2017-07-08 7:47 PM
Enjoy tomorrow!

Metallica!  DH is dead jealous.  Hope it's a great day!!!

Nice half-marathon! Oh, have fun at the concert!
Parent - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:13 PM
Enjoy the concert, swandive! Sorry about the crappy run.
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2017-07-10 8:11 AM
I hadn't heard Metallica was playing! I'm jealous. The last time I saw them was the very last concert at the Omni: pbbt:
Parent - By swandive Date 2017-07-10 6:34 PM
Yes!  I bought tickets in the first 5 minutes of the presale and arrived at the stadium 10 hours before they came onstage, but that's not how most people do these things.

3 miles this morning. I woke up far too late so it was hot and my water ran out before I finished  The first 2 miles were pretty good, the next half mile was ugly...and then I remembered that I only actually had to do 2.5 miles per plan so the final half mile to get home was more walking than running : pbbt:
Parent - By judyruns Date 2017-07-09 8:41 AM
Good workout...there is nothing wrong with a walk-run!
Parent - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:15 PM
But, you got out there! Walk/runs are perfectly legit.
Parent - - By prairierunner [us] Date 2017-07-09 6:36 AM
Worst run ever yesterday morning.  I have micro tears in my posterior medial meniscus--usually well managed/tolerated.  Yesterday, notsomuch.  I heard a disconcerting sound 8.5 miles into my 10 mile run:cry:  Had to hobble home.  Thank goodness I was only 1.5 miles from home, and not 7 miles out.  When DH got home from the office, he saw me icing the swollen knee, propping it up, he had the good sense not to ask how my run went:laugh:  So off to the doctor I go tomorrow.  I will demand antidepressants if I am sidelined for more than 8 weeks.
Parent - By judyruns Date 2017-07-09 8:41 AM
:hug::hug::hug::hug: I'm so sorry!
Parent - By Zipper [us] Date 2017-07-09 9:56 AM
Ouch! Random meniscus aggravation...
Parent - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:17 PM
Meniscus issues. :mutmad::sad: Hope all at the doctor's goes well.
Parent - By Nomad Date 2017-07-09 5:27 PM
 that sounds horrible, I hope the doc is able to do something better than antidepressants!

RR:

I hit the stationary bike for an hour yesterday and did my resistance band exercises for glutes and all the niggly supporting muscles. Legs are pretty tired, so I think today is a USDO.

NRR:

T-bone and I went out yesterday afternoon to see the current Cirque du Soleil show touring here. Neither he nor I have seen a Cirque show before, and it was fantastic. The 2.5 hours passed in a blink.

Also, XH is being a secretive douchebag again. He and his fiancee left the country for 9 days for vacation, leaving Ratbag home alone, and didn't even give me the courtesy of a heads-up about it. Granted, Ratbag is a legal adult, so this was legally defensible, but it seems to me that as a co-parent, you let the other parent know to keep an eye out in case there is an emergency, ya know? Like, even just to leave the phone on.:mutmad:
Parent - - By runnertype [us] Date 2017-07-09 12:33 PM
Oh, that is shitty, I agree! Angry on your behalf. What are Ratbags post high school plans?
Parent - - By Zipper [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:40 PM
He is going to an in-state university. He will be living on campus, so will be away from XH, thank God.
Parent - By runnertype [us] Date 2017-07-09 7:46 PM
Oh good.
Parent - - By ironjen Date 2017-07-09 12:56 PM
Since Ratbag is of legal age, do you even need to have contact with XH anymore at this point?
Yeah for a nice afternoon out with Tbone!
Parent - - By Zipper [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:39 PM
He is of legal age, but that doesn't mean we quit being parents.
Parent - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 2:49 PM
Absolutely. I am not a parent, but having observed my mom, dad, brother and many friends, this is clear.
Parent - By ironjen Date 2017-07-09 4:44 PM Edited 2017-07-09 4:46 PM
Deleted comment. That wasn't what I meant and as a parent I wouldn't have meant that. So I'll just shut up now.
Parent - - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:20 PM
OMG, this is a familiar story, not for me, but for my bro. His XW continually made decisions affecting their kid without consulting him about any of it. Let's just say that the decisions were not in the best interest of the kid and that has become more apparent than ever now that he is a legal adult. :mutmad::sad:

I've only seen one Cirque show and that was the Beatles "Love" show in Las Vegas. Incredible!
Parent - - By Zipper [us] Date 2017-07-09 1:40 PM
Ack. I am sorry to hear that about your nephew.
Parent - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 2:51 PM
It's a very sad situation. He hasn't spoken to my brother in two years now, all thanks to the brainwashing he received from my brother's x. No, my brother is not an angel, but he did the best he could, including never missing a single child support payment. And TRYING like hell to be involved in his kid's life. The whole story is so bizarre and f----- up, it's beyond belief. :mutmad:
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-07-09 6:06 PM
Watching my brother deal with this, I've gotten a whole new appreciation for how difficult these situations can be. I feel for you and your son.
Parent - By tritri Date 2017-07-09 7:40 PM
Glad you liked Cirque du Soleil!  They are amazing aren't they?!

Sorry about XH.  :mutmad:  I keep wanting to call him X asshat, but it seems he remains an asshat.
Parent - - By kcp65 [us] Date 2017-07-09 2:55 PM
Just found out that I am in VERY elite company with my broken patella experience! (Never mind that  mine had nothing to do with sports and everything to do with a freak move in my own house.)
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-07-09 6:08 PM
I guess that's some comfort.: pbbt:

Ran two miles with my weight workout. I was drenched by the time I finished so I consider it a success.

Saturday I ran 10. 5 with the early group and 5 with the regular 7 am group. Averaged a 9:02 pace in spite of the fact I was dying to walk. Felt good about the run but not so great afterwards.:meh:

Sunday 5 with TRWS group and then off to celebrate a belated Father's Day with the family. Between my mom being in the hospital and my brother's divorce, things got postponed. It was good to get together and then invited everyone over to meat Winston.
