Up Topic General / Letters and Opinions / Casual shoes to wear with jeans (that aren't running shoes)

Howdy peeps!

I am in the market for some new casual shoes that I can wear with jeans that still look nice. I had a pair of Skechers faux-leather shoes, but they are cracking and displaying my toes for all the world to see now. I tend to wear loose fit jeans (no skinny jeans for me!).

Prerequisites:

Must be under $100
Must look good with shirts like this (it's all I wear these days, it seems)
Must not be a creepy toe shoe

What do you all recommend? I'm at a loss when it comes to style, being an old, out-of-touch smelly peep now. Thanks!

I'm even more old and smelly than you.

Vans? Some sort of slip on type shoe or are those too close to sneakers?
My hubby wears some Sperry type shoe but that shirt looks a little hipster-y. He's more preppy.

Maybe insistor, adameneh or mkh will chime in. Insistor probably wears skinny jeans tho. : pbbt::hug:

 Yes, yest I do : pbbt:

I like Toms a lot. Super comfortable and reasonably priced, especially if on sale. I wear them with jeans and (skinny) shorts.

I was going to mention Toms too.

 I meant it friendly.

I have four pair of Tom's, those would do nicely.

George didn't post in the Shoe Forum. Sad!

I didn't even know they still existed.
They were huge here around '90 with the checkerboard laces.

Merrell Body Gloves - creepy toe shoes without the toes.  They actually don't look too bad and are decent shoes for a runner

Original Furoshiki shoes - not sure even The Beard would be caught wearing these.   They do come in the pretty colors and with sparkles.

I do have a pair of Merrell Body Glove shoes but I am looking for something a little more dapper (hence why I actually like The Beard's suggestions). thanks!

Are you a brogue that likes to have fun? If so you might like these. They are great for dapper days on rooftops or going all in at the derby.

I assume this is not a serious answer, mostly because I think you are incapable of being serious, but I like those. Is that bad?

I like them too, which probably is a strong indicator of how much everyone else thinks that they suck.

These are more than $100 but this is a style I would wear. They will go on sale or you can find similar at a Cole Haan Outlet.

Does your wife have a matching pair?
Parent - - By jwd1113 Date 2017-07-16 2:26 PM
i have some Johnston & Murphy Allister "wingtips"  mine are not suede

they are sneakers that look like dress shoes and are very comfortable

but my day to day shoes are nearly all Keens; Briggs, Austin, Portsmouth...you can find them on sale for less than $100
Parent - By darbycrash Date 2017-07-17 8:06 PM
The have me interested. I like them.
Parent - By jwd1113 Date 2017-07-17 8:38 AM
these LL Bean sneakers aren't terribly stylish, but they are very comfortable.. {and cheap}

Serious answer :shocker!:...

Keen makes some nice shoes. I've had two pairs of their shoes and two pairs of sandals. All were comfortable and durable

So?

So far I like the dapper brogue shoes you suggested and the Allister wingtips from jwd. It would be nice to be able to try them on though, because I have found many shoes lately that look nice but are not comfortable.

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY ARE COMFORTABLE! LOOKING GOOD MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!
